Juraj,

Here is a link to the Highwood Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
http://rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/allegheny/tsphotos.htm
- many of the people in this cemetery are from Eastern Slovakia - their names have been "americanized", for example, there is "Frank Mlay", my grandfather who's name in Radvan was Fedotr Mlej. I like the way this site handles the photo images - if you click on the person's name then the full-size image is shown. Other people from Radvany that are there are : Vasil Rudisin, Frank (Fedor) Valalik, the Lipchaks and Hricaks, the Demkos and the Chulacks (changed their name from Csuli - not sure why).

Dear Mr. Richard Roman,

I have finished already whole your tree of Roman family. I am really happy with the result of my work.
This tree will be great as my sample of my searching in the archives for my website.
I collected all church records of Roman people from 1795 until 1965 from two state archives Kosice and Satoraljaujhely.
I used census records(y.1869) of Velky Ruskov (old name: Nagy Ruszka) as well.
I took more then 570 images of church records and all census records of 116 houses of Velky Ruskov.

I have found more then 270 new persons in your family tree (1795-1965) and you will be able to see that in pdf file „Roman-family“.

The oldest family tree makes many open questions:
I have noticed that no Roman (no man and no woman) was married in Velky Ruskov during oldest church records 1795-1805.
Also no Roman (no man and no woman) was buried in Velky Ruskov during oldest records 1805-1822 !!!
It looks that all first Roman families had to live in the different village before above oldest church records.

I have found in BAJUS family´s record that this family came from the village Ujlak (not too far from Velky Ruskov).
Bajus family was connected with Roman family during this oldest period. Michal Bajus was as witness on the Picture.220.221
of birth record of Maria Roman born 20/04/1804 in Velky Ruskov.

So here is just my suggestion of next searching of older roots. So, first Roman people could be found
in the oldest Ujlak church records. They are available in the state archive:

Ujlak (today Novosad village)
greek catholic church records:
birth records: 1774 – 1898
marriage records: 1773 – 1937
death records: 1773 – 1932

reformed church records: birth/marriage/death: 1768 – 1906
and roman catholic records: : birth/marriage/death: 1755 – 1917

Also on my website:
http://www.cisarik.com/village-0170.html
. . .there is one family still named Roman now.

Today I am going to send the CD to you. So, I have finished the work for right now.
Please write me when you will get the CD.

Best regards,
Juraj Cisarik
Kosice

>Thank you so much for your help in learning about my heritage. Your help was indispensable for my trip to Kosice/Hrubov, and I don’t think it could have been possible without your assistance. I thoroughly enjoyed traveling around the beautiful countryside and learning the history of the area. If anybody is considering to travel to Eastern Slovakia with the intend to rediscover their family heritage, Juraj’s service is a must. I traveled to the area for 3 days in mid-November, and was able to rediscover my Great-Grandfather’s home village. Thanks again for all your help, and I am looking forward to future visits.to see some pictures, I have some posted at: http://community.webshots.com/user/marcinaustria Thanks again for your help, and please keep in touch!

>Hello Juraj and Marianna -
>
>First - our time spent with both of you was wonderful. We are so amazed at how beautiful Slovakia and the people are. You have given us a 'once in a lifetime' experience. Thank you for the hard work and the family introductions. You are performing a service that is one of the
>most rewarding - saving families. I rank that profession as high as other humanitarian occupations like doctors, international aid workers, etc. Cathy V.
